The Potential of an Actor or Theatre Artist

So, you might be wondering: “What kinds of jobs can those with acting or theater experience

get?”. Well, the truth is that their potential for finding a job is infinite. Hypothetically, they’d be

able to work in any field as the skills acquired are the most transferable skills anyone could ever

have. Acting is the art of living after all. Being truthful and authentic will resonate and have its

strengths in anything you choose.

With all that being said, the closest related jobs that you would hope to get or the ones that would

require the full breadth of your training would be: Actor in Film/TV, Theatre, Voice Over,

Physical Theatre Artist.

For those who feel that Theatre Artist describes them more accurately, the jobs listed above

would of course qualify, as well as: Director, Assistant Director, Playwright, Stage Manager,

Costume Designer, Lighting Designer, Set Designer, Dancer, Singer, and any other job relating to

the Theater.

For jobs that aren’t using all the skills required to be an actor or theatre artist, aren’t as creative,

but have closely related transferable skills, I’d say these jobs are also closely related: Therapist

or Historian. Anything that is Anthropological in nature (involving the study of Human-Beings).

Apart from all of that, every other job could be a good fit for an actor or theatre artist as long as

it promotes authenticity. Jobs that require the person to lie or go against their natural instincts

will be a horrible fit for an actor or theatre artist. My recommendation is to stay away from jobs

that require you to put on a false mask such as retail or customer service. These positions are

very counter intuitive to the artist’s impulse.

I hope this helps! Wishing you the best of luck!
